CHEMICAL CONTROL OF DONKEY-TAILED GRASS IN DIFFERENT DEVELOPMENT STAGES

Abstract

Donkey-tailed grass is a poaceae, considered a recent weed in soybean crops and its
increasing the infestation’s levels and the difficulty of control. Thus, this study aimed to
evaluate the effectiveness of different doses of herbicides applied alone or mixed, to control
dunk-grass at different stages of development. Three experiments were conducted, first one
in greenhouse with new plants and two experiments in the field with clumps. The treatments
were glyphosate; fluazifop; sethoxydim; fenoxaprop; clethodim; quizalofop; haloxyfop;
pinoxaden, nicosulfuron; glufosinate and mixtures of glyphosate with clethodim,
quizalofop, haloxyfop or sethoxydim. Treatments with glyphosate, alone or mixed, showed
higher levels of control in all experiments. Glyphosate, glufosinate, clethodim, haloxyfop
and sethoxydim were effective in the control of new plants. For the clumps’ management,
glyphosate and haloxyfop alone demonstrated efficiency greater than 90% independent of
the dose and clethodim and sethoxydim in the highest dose. The herbicides pinoxaden and
nicosulfuron are not alternatives to donkey-tailed grass control.
